The daily routine matters as much as the initial treatment plan. Clear aligners work when the trays fit, the prescribed wear time is maintained and changes are checked at the right moment.
A realistic routine around meals
Many plans require roughly 20–22 hours of daily wear, but follow your clinician’s prescription. Remove the trays for meals and for drinks other than plain cool water. Clean your teeth and trays appropriately before reinserting them; discuss how to manage meals away from home. Acidic food and drinks need sensible oral-care advice rather than repeated aggressive brushing.
Clean trays with the method recommended for that product. Hot water can distort them. Do not change trays early to make up for missed wear without advice.
Rough edges, pressure and a tooth that feels loose
Some pressure after changing aligners can occur. A persistent sharp edge, ulcer or tray that does not fit deserves advice; orthodontic wax may provide temporary relief if recommended. Do not cut or reshape a tray in a way that changes its fit.
A molar that feels newly loose, painful or out of position should be assessed. Mild temporary mobility can occur with orthodontic movement, but it is not safe to assume that every loose tooth is normal.

Refinements and finishing touches
Additional scans and refinement trays may be needed when movements have not fully tracked or the final contacts need improvement. The number cannot be predicted for everyone. While waiting, wear the tray or retainer your clinician specifies rather than stopping on your own.
Composite bonding can improve the shape of a small, chipped or worn tooth after alignment, but it is optional restorative treatment, not an automatic final stage. Teeth whitening also needs a suitable assessment. Attachments and existing restorations affect planning; do not put whitening gel in trays unless specifically instructed.
Ask whether refinements, replacement trays, bonding, whitening and retainers are included in the written price.
Retainers protect the result
Teeth can move again after active treatment. Removable retainers, fixed retainers or a combination may be recommended, with long-term wear and review. A fixed retainer still needs cleaning and checks, and a removable one must fit and remain intact.
At CHC Clínica Dental Barcelona, ask for clear written instructions on daily wear, problems between appointments and the retention plan before finishing your aligner treatment.
