A lower headline price does not always mean a lower final bill. A useful comparison includes the same treatment, materials, follow-up and travel costs in both countries.
Comparing like with like
For a bridge, confirm the number of units and the supporting teeth. For composite bonding, confirm how many teeth and surfaces are involved. A cleaning, periodontal treatment and teeth whitening are different services: an uninsured tourist should ask for separate quotes and an examination before cosmetic treatment.
Root canal costs depend on the tooth, complexity and whether a previous treatment needs repeating. A filling, onlay or crown afterwards may be an additional charge. Comparing Spain with London only makes sense when those elements match.
An implant price may refer only to the implant placed in the bone. Ask whether the abutment, crown, scans, extraction, grafting, temporary tooth and reviews are included. A package price should state its exclusions just as clearly as its inclusions.
Removable dentures and implant-supported options
A quote for snap-in dentures should specify both the implants and the removable denture, attachment system and maintenance. It is not the same treatment as a fixed full-arch bridge. A US quote of $28,000, for example, cannot establish what a comparable Spanish plan should cost without the records and specifications.
Dentures made abroad can be appropriate, but healing and fitting adjustments require time. After extractions, the fit changes as tissues heal, and relining or replacement may be needed. Factor in access to those appointments.
Travel, warranties and complications
Include flights, accommodation, meals, time off work, a companion if needed, and possible return trips. A realistic reserve for unexpected care helps reveal whether the saving remains worthwhile.
A clinic warranty is a written commercial commitment with conditions, not a promise that biological complications cannot occur. Ask who pays for travel, repairs and treatment if something fails, and whether maintenance requirements affect cover.
Standard travel insurance may exclude planned treatment and its complications. If you are travelling from Canada or elsewhere, seek written policy confirmation rather than assuming a medical-tourism product covers every event. No insurer can be recommended without checking the actual policy and eligibility.
A quote you can use
Request an itemised plan, payment and cancellation terms, and invoices showing the procedures performed. Keep records for any reimbursement claim, but do not assume your home insurer or public system will repay private treatment abroad. Confirm eligibility before treatment.
Ask CHC Clínica Dental Barcelona for a case-specific estimate after assessment. Compare total cost and continuity of care alongside price; neither a low fee nor a high fee alone proves quality.
