Dr. Álvaro Babiano Nodal combines clinical practice in periodontology, implant dentistry and aesthetic gum surgery with a strong commitment to research. At CHC Clínica Dental Barcelona, he brings together tissue health, digital planning and the restorative objective to consider each treatment as a whole.
A Dentistry graduate of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with a Master’s in Periodontology and Implants from UIC Barcelona, he is a coauthor of scientific publications on soft-tissue grafts, changes in peri-implant tissues and the control of inflammation around implants. His research activity is complemented by participation in conferences and workshops for other professionals.
He is a member of the Department of Periodontology’s teaching faculty at UIC Barcelona and works as a clinical instructor. He combines university teaching and clinical supervision with patient care and research.
His research received UIC Barcelona’s Dr. Miquel Cortada Award for Scientific Excellence in the Best Master’s Final Project category, for his study of the impact of oral hygiene instructions on the resolution of peri-implant mucositis.
The shape and health of the gums are assessed alongside the teeth. His focus on periodontal aesthetics incorporates this relationship into treatment planning.
Implant positioning is considered together with the rehabilitation it will support. Digital planning helps organise this relationship before surgery.
His publications address soft-tissue grafts, changes in peri-implant tissues and the control of inflammation around implants.
Clinical approach
A periodontal assessment examines the gums and the tissues supporting the teeth, as well as maintenance needs. At CHC, Álvaro incorporates this perspective into treatments ranging from periodontal care to implant surgery.
When a case requires oral rehabilitation, care is coordinated with the rest of the team. This connects tissue needs with the planned restoration, rather than approaching each stage in isolation.
His work in aesthetic gum surgery focuses on the balance between teeth and tissues. An individual assessment establishes when periodontal treatment may form part of a plan to improve the smile.
Implant placement is planned around the diagnosis and restorative objective. His teaching activity includes implant dentistry and guided-surgery workshops, while his clinical communications illustrate applications of virtual planning in surgery.
Follow-up is part of his clinical approach. Hygiene and the assessment of tissues around implants are also central research themes, with particular attention to peri-implant mucositis.
Advanced education and clinical development
